This is a device made of wire, a washer, and rubber bands.
Here's how it works: Wind up the washer and rubber band device at least 80 turns. Hold onto the washer and slide the device into the envelope, holding the outside of the envelope so that it will not unwind.
Holding on to the envelope, approach the victim and ask if they've ever seen rattlesnake eggs. Make sure they get a good look at the picture of the rattlesnake on the package. Tell them that you have some real ones and you have to be careful because if they've been out in the heat, like on a car dashboard, they can hatch out into rattlesnakes.
Hand them the envelope and watch them jump as the rubber band and washer unwinds.
This is a classic trick that makes a harmless April Fool's Day prank. It's also good for a laugh any other day of the year.
