Deluxe version of the classic shocker. Uses one AAA battery which is included.

The Shock Lighter is a classic prank. This fiendish little gadget looks like an ordinary lighter with a nice chrome finish, but this is no ordinary lighter. This "lighter" contains a coil that boosts the voltage from its single AAA battery up to 110 volts. There's no amperage to the output so you can't really hurt anybody with it, but it will sure give the victim one a hell of a jolt. There are any number of ways to set up this prank. Among smokers, you just have to wait for the opportunity when someone needs a light. You could also approach the victim while shaking the lighter, for example. Pretend to try to light it up then ask if the victim can get it to work. Another ploy is to tell the victim that it's a squirt lighter and to point it at somebody and press down hard. The harder they press, the more of a shock they will get. It's best to use this product over carpet or grass because it does tend to hit the ground a lot as it flies from the victim's hand.


This Deluxe version of the Shock Lighter is very well made and will withstand a fair amount of abuse. A tip on maintenance: if the lighter sits for a while without being used, it may not want to work right away. Pull off the cover and remove the battery. Use the eraser on the end of a pencil to "brighten" both of the battery terminals. Also brighten the little copper contact prong that touches the inside of the case and completes the circuit. Be very careful of this little contact point as you slide the case back over it. In the event that your shock lighter has taken a hard hit to the ground, it may stop working altogether. You might however be able to bring it back to life again. Pull the cover off and observe the circuitry as you work the lighter. You will see an "L" shaped piece of metal extending from the coil and facing a contact point on a copper bar. If you adjust the distance between the surface of the "L" and the contact point, the lighter will often work again.
